3rd Birthday Party at Chucky Cheese

by John

Quick, Turn Left

Quick, Turn Left

Taking child pictures at her 3rd birthday party had the potential of major stress, but this time I planned for it and followed some of the tips I read here.

The main thing I learned (the hard way) was regarding the flash. I used an external flash on the camera and didn't realize that there would be a shadow created by the car's roof. So, the "lesson" is to beware of anything that can possibly get in the way of a flash, and cause a shadow.

I think the best way would have been to shoot from below eye level but I'll have to wait for another party to verify it.

Death to Shadows!
by: Fran

I have had so many great pictures ruined by shadows, so I know what you're saying. Only thought is in these situations to try to have child lean away from objects. Seems like if she leaned forward a bit, she'd avoid the roof line causing a shadow, but getting children to do what you want... that's another story. It's an adorable photo and little girl, by the way.
