Arenal Volcano, "The Green Side"

by Kristina Ortman
(Hanover Park, Il, USA)

I was in Costa Rica on vacation and I spent the previous day on the other side of the volcano watching the mini eruptions and lava flows. I drove around the next day to see the other side and I was just amazed how the one side was green and the other had lava continuously flowing down the side.

This picture was taken with an Olympus Stylus 1030SW, on the Auto setting with the flash off.

Very pretty picture

The subject and composition are beautiful. It would look a little better, if the top right side were cropped out of the frame. Also, it looks as if the auto setting chose to focus on the foreground (the bushes). I have trouble using my Nikon D80 on auto setting. I took some photos for a friend at a party, and some of the faces in the group shots were not in focus.
