     I'm a professional photographer, not a web designer. I can't code, and working with software often scares me. (Can you relate?)

     Why am I admitting this? Because most people who ask me how I created a website don't believe they can do the same thing, unless they have a technical background.

     I've learned that the two most important factors needed to succeed in a home based business are DESIRE and KNOWING WHAT TO DO.

     I had the desire. But I didn't have a clue how to do it. One of the "Life Lessons" I've learned the hard way, is this:

These are the 5 steps of my journey. I hope they help you on yours.

#1: Fact Finding

In general, when I don't know what to do, I gather information. My goal here was to build a home based business (without quitting my "day job"), so by the time I retired, I could make it a full-time business.

I began by searching Google. This is what I found when searching for info on how to build a website...



142,000,000 possible answers! Were they kidding?! I didn't have time to investigate 142, let alone 142 million! That was pretty discouraging, but I kept going.

#2: What Happened?

Call it luck, divine intervention, or simply "being my turn." I "found" the perfect answer and took the plunge. By using step-by-step instructions and time-saving software tools (more on Site Build It later), my first website page went live on December 7, 2004.

By the end of December, I had received a total of 185 visits and 695 page views. (My data can be found here.)

By following the step-by-step instructions of Site Build It's Action Guide, these results were achieved 2 years later.

#3: How did My Monthly Visits Go From 185 to 48,750?

Was it dumb luck? Not really. I simply followed the advice of Site Build It (better known as "SBI"), the SBI Forum where everything is discussed, and the SBI Support Department. Before SBI, I didn't understand how search engines like Google and Yahoo even found your website.

Afterward, I realized there are basically two ways search engines find websites: one costs the website money and the other costs nothing. SBI showed me how to generate traffic that didn't cost me anything. And that lead to INCOME.
