In the pines

by Shelley Coleman
(Indianapolis, Indiana)

I took this photo at a park near some pine trees. The mother didn't have any recent photos of her and her boys so we planned for shots on this day. I wanted the angles in the photo to draw the eyes to the faces. I used a Nikon D60 with a 55-200mm lens. The biggest challenge I had was placing the young boy in the blue shirt. He wasn't one for pictures. This photo is the only photo out of 7 that he was smiling. His brother had blinked in this shot. I photoshopped the brother who blinked and put another head shot in place. (Can you tell it?.... I hope not.) The sky was overcast which led to limited harsh shadows. I used a F22 stop to make sure everything from the trees to the grass in front of them would be in focus.

Great family photo
by: Janice

You did a wonderful job of capturing family harmony in this photo. I can't tell you photoshopped the boy's head. Great editing, too!!
