The best time of the day to take outdoor photos is just about an hour before the sun sets. The lighting is low, has a great hue to it and it typically does not cause your subject to squint or cast harsh shadows. This is a photo of my son taken in front of a red telephone booth at about 5:00 pm on a March day. Canon XTi, 50mm lens, 1/500 1.8
