New baby - Day she's born - Flash breaks - Panic sets in

Sleeping Beauty

Talk about "once in a lifetime events!" Granddaughter is born and I'm all ready with my new (and untried) camera. I know I have to use the flash, the camera tells me I need the flash; but either it's broken or I can't get it to work.

Panic sets in! How do I increase the light in the room? Against mom's wishes, I briefly open the curtains, and fumble around to set the ISO higher (since the camera was warning me about too little light).

I positioned myself best I could, somehow figured out how to increase the ISO, and sat down to take the shot. Divine intervention must have been at work that day because the picture turned out better than any other I've taken!

Lesson: after the panic stops, do something!

that really is a great photo. Lighting is perfect, flash would have probably cast some ugly shadows. This is soft yet detailed. i love it.

This is one of the greatest newborn shots I've ever seen. May you always have such "problems." And - very cute cute baby.

Lucky is... lucky!

Talk about "falling into it." I try to NOT use the flash unless there's no other way. This picture displays nice effects with shadow and light, even if it was accomplished by accident.

The other really great part of this photograph is that unlike typical baby pictures, the entire face was not framed in a symmetrical way. Personally, I find it very boring when I look at baby pictures and EVERY SINGLE SHOT is a perfectly centered symmetrical face.

I can just imagine Lucky not being able to position himself between the window and the baby because of possible shadows, so he "settled" for what turned out to be a fabulous photo. Super job!
