Photography Tips and Tricks
for INDOORS

"And I thought I was the only one
who couldn't eliminate shadows!"

Professional photography tips and tricks... so you need to pick up some real quickly, don't you? Why?

Maybe because you were just elected to be "The Official Photographer" at your folks' anniversary party.

Or... maybe you're simply relaxing at home with your family and you realize you don't have any recent portraits of anyone.

Whatever the motivation, get ready to pick up some terrific photography tips that will have you shooting like a pro in no time. Well...maybe not a pro, but definitely not like an amateur anymore.

Photography Tips and Tricks #42:

When you are indoors, there are specific issues that need to be addressed in photography.

First of all, light will be more of an issue. If you use the flash, you need to be aware of one of the greatest menaces in photography... shaaaadows!

But, don't despair. We will not only cover some photography tips and tricks when using your flash; we'll also cover alternatives to having to use a flash in the first place.

Another unique issue involves walls. But, you know the old saying: "Can't live with 'em, can't live while the house is falling down around you." If you can't fit everyone in a photograph outside, you, the camera-person, can simply back up. Do that inside and you're going to wind up with a concussion.

Ready to learn some great indoor photography tips and tricks? We're going to cover 5 different areas:

Basic Planning for Group Pictures

Although planning for an event doesn't technically fall under photography tips and tricks, it nontheless is important. Most families don't get together for formal occasions too often.

So, when they do, the photographer needs to make the most of it. Planning should address such things as who should be in which pictures and what group poses should be captured for eternity. The one major photography tip here is -- don't miss a shot that can't be repeated for 10 years.

If you are the kind of photographer that goes to an event, takes a bunch of pictures, reviews than at home, and then thinks:"Oh, no!! I didn't get any shots of _____ (you can fill in the blank here)!"

Capture Great Group Shots
Without Having a Nervous Breakdown

Most camera owners are very intimidated about how to take group photos, and that's understandable.

After all, you need to decide on the best location, find a good background, effectively pose everyone, deal with lighting, the composition, depth of field... the list goes on and on.

Even though these points are true, there is a better way to take group photographs than telling the group to "Move over there and smile." That better way is our No-Sweat Approach to Taking Great Group Photos.

By following the "By-the-Numbers" approach in our book, I can guarantee that your group photos will be AT LEAST TWICE AS GOOD as they have ever been (even if you've never held a camera before).

To find out how we created an approach that is just as effective for an experienced photographer as it is for a beginner, look here for a real eye-opener!

Tripod Photography

How would you like some photography tips that provided an entire new category of possible photographs you could take? This list of photography tips and tricks can be boiled down to one word... tripod.

Flash Photography

If there was ever an area of photography that cried out for a long list of photography tips, it's flash photography. Why? Because it's a lot more complicated than most people realize.

"What's the big deal? If it's dark, use the flash to add light... right?" Well, yes and NO! To pick up some basic flash photography tricks, click Flash Photography.

Photography Background

When taking photos of your family, you need to also consider what or who else will be in the frame. Of course you can always crop later, but if you can avoid the extra work in the first place, why not? Click on Background.

Photography Lighting

If you have seen silhouette photos without knowing how to create them, this is the page to be. Explore back lighting, side lighting, diffused lighting, and artificial lighting.
